Teknion is currently hiring a full-time Manufacturing Engineer for our Tekform plant in our North York, ON location. The Manufacturing Engineer interacts with various departments to give technical support and make recommendations for the provision of adequate tools, equipment and methods to produce the most profitable product at the highest quality standard. The successful candidate will develop, improve and maintain the manufacturing capability to meet and exceed quality, safety and cost standards by applying lean manufacturing principles.

Primary responsibilities

  • Provide manufacturing data and suggestions to the Product Engineering, Design and Customer Service departments so that all manufacturing aspects are considered, to ensure effective production and interact with various departments through teamwork projects, to meet the company’s current and future objectives.

  • Ensure new product or engineering change implementations occur in production by supplying information to the involved parties, ordering proper equipment and tooling, implementing processes on the shop floor, approving products and updating engineering product drawings in the database.

  • Prototyping new products on the shop floor; preparing special samples and enduring the accuracy of product against design drawings.

  • Involvement with new product, process and quality planning (APQP), PPAP, BOM reviews, tooling reviews to support designed parts and process changes. Liaise with related departments for timely execution of the action items.

  • For existing and new products, analyze the costs, materials and labor requirements and as well, issue Engineering Change Requests, modify tooling, layouts (to improve capacity load of product) and material handling to constantly improve the manufacturing process.

  • Support ISO9001& ISO14001 process by issuing Process Control Sheets for all equipment, doing first off inspections and giving advice for equipment maintenance.

  • Liaise with vendors by developing specifications and participating in the design and commissioning of new equipment and/or installations.  Also coordinate and negotiate service contracts as necessary.

  • Ensure that the manufacturing equipment and manufacturing facilities are operational and safe by evaluating, recommending, developing and implementing preventative maintenance procedures which will also minimize production interruption/delays.

  • Support development and implementation of Health & Safety procedures, and then train and educate the shop floor personnel accordingly.

  • Keep the company aware of the current technological advances; introduce new technology and automation through justification analysis in order to achieve cost reduction, improve quality and the work environment; ensure necessary paperwork (C.A.R.A. form) is generated.

  • Support plant supervisors and lead hands to clarify drawings and special orders so that ship dates and customer expectations are met.

  • Support cost reduction programs and value added/value engineering opportunities.

  • Evaluate and approve Temporary Deviation Requests that could be generated internally or externally.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • University engineering degree or equivalent

  • P. Eng license preferred

  • Three - Five years experience in manufacturing environment.

  • Computer drafting (AutoCad, Solidworks,..) / Data analysis on spreadsheets / MS Office Applications / CNC Machining Process

  • Hands-on experience with process improvement projects, problem solving, and implementation success in Lean Manufacturing principles across the manufacturing material flow paths.

  • Knowledge and experience with variety of  manufacturing processes and materials (ie sheet metal, plastic, glass, wood)

  • Particle board, MDF, wood processing experience is a plus

Teknion is currently hiring a full-time Maintenance Mechanic for our North York, ON office for afternoon shifts. The successful candidate will ensure that all equipment is functioning as required

Primary responsibilities

  • Perform a “walk” upon arrival and ensure that all equipment is functioning as required.
  • Create, document & input programs, program changes and troubleshoot for machines.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair all machinery at designated locations. This involves the use of manual or powered hand tools machining equipment.
  • Refurbish electronic control board; troubleshoot, repair, replace and perform preventative maintenance for all electrical equipment including switches, relays, control systems, sensors etc. using various tools including soldering guns, scopemeter, megometer, multimeter etc.
  • Responsible for the operation of robots in the plant. Reprogram robots approximately 5-6 times per shift for welding changes.
  • Provide training for machine operators on how to change to pre-set programs, document changes and updates, utilizing various software if required.
  • Machinery redesign/modifications and/or process improvement to include but not limited to fixtures, assembly jigs, carts, gauges, and guarding.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance according to schedule. Primary responsibility for all robotic, electrical and PLC systems and equipment. Act as a backup for mechanical.
  • Abide by OHSA regulations and Teknion policy and procedures pertaining to Lock Out/Tag out, completing work orders, etc. Advise Management of actions taken.
  • Verify machinery and equipment is shut down at end of shift.
  • Maintains safe and clean Maintenance area.
  • Maintains stock of commonly used spare parts.
  • Flexible to work on day, afternoon, and night shift.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Programmable Logic Controller – formal training.
  • Robotic Systems – formal training.
  • Extensive hands on experience with PLCs, robotics and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read CAD drawings.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Licensed to operate scissor lift and forklift.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safety Code, OHSA, TSSA, and WHMIS.
  • Ability to operate manual and power hand tools machining equipment.
  • Ability to read from tape measure, measuring tools and gauges.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes to include but not limited to CNC, Brake Press,
  • Welding, Paint line, Upholstery Equipment and assembly fixtures.
  • Knowledgeable to use grinders, welding equipment, impact guns, etc.

  • Manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude, and positive attitude.
  • Industrial Mechanic diploma or comparable.
  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) license.

  • Knowledge of pneumatic applications and power transmission equipment.
  • Certified First Aid, would be an asset.

The Design Engineer is accountable for ensuring that the product designed and produced at Esmond Manufacturing will satisfy the customer requirements and applicable safety standards. The costs and environmental impacts of these products are to be minimized while ensuring that acceptable quality is maintained. Additionally, it is responsibility of the incumbent to engage customers in direct discussions to define the desired and required product features and capabilities as well as establish schedules to ensure meeting customer launch dates. The Quality Engineer is accountable for applying, improving and driving company policies and practices in accordance to the ISO 9001 Quality System and Industry Best Practices. To achieve this, the incumbent ensures that quality processes are in accordance with company standards and that these activities ensure product conformity is in accordance with the control plan and are performed in a cost efficient manner.

This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and continuously improving manufacturing’s ability to meet and exceed quality standards.  In addition, the incumbent is accountable for interacting with various internal departments, internal and external suppliers to give technical support and guidance to meet the quality standards. 

Primary responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact to resolve quality concerns through Teknion’s Tekcare process.
  • Promptly complete Quality Alerts, communicate (with sign-off) and train the production team with back up and/or non standard methods until permanent corrective actions are implemented.

  • Lead and Drive Root Cause analysis meetings by using 8D, 5 Whys methodology both internally and at supplier locations as required, validate permanent corrective actions and document Lessons Learned.

  • Implement, update and approve internal work instructions and data sheets on production lines ensuring all necessary inspections are included and that the related measuring equipment is available.

  • Organize and perform gage R&R studies.  Perform measurements and data collection on engineering samples, record SPC data and coordinate line trail data collection.

  • Develop, prioritize, analyze and graph the data collected from the Quality Technicians highlighting top Quality issues per production line. Work on reducing Quality issues through Continuous Improvement.

  • Complete weekly claims summary and ensure the quality indicators and targets are well tracked, documented and communicated.

  • Utilize Statistical Process Controls where appropriate to monitor and improve the manufacturing process.

  • Travel to job sites as required identifying and/or resolving quality issues. Ensure that all chargeable service work or purchased mock-ups are documented.

  • Practical knowledge of ISO-9000, ISO14001 standards, PPAP, Control Plans, PFMEA and analytical tools.

  • Responsible for initiating and evaluating Temporary Deviation Requests that are generated internally or externally when required.

  • Develop and facilitate Quality Workshops and therefore master quality tools and techniques, train team members and support staff in appropriate quality reactiveness

  • Support program launches through all phases, from product design to plant launch.

  • Perform all other duties reasonable to the position as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

  • Learning development background a plus to include designing programs at the organizational level.
  • Proficient with course development software and technologies such as Articulate, Captivate, SCORM

The Customer Order Analyst is responsible for the update and maintenance of the Order Entry and PB-TOPS applications. In addition, the incumbent will act as the back up to the Supervisor, Order Entry.

Primary responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day operation of TOPS (Teknion Order Processing System), including trouble shooting, maintenance of data and support.

  • Responsible for the update and maintenance of the product catalog (PB-TOPS) database – used to verify product codes on order lines.

  • Responsible for the code verification and testing flow-through from the Product Management databases to PB-TOPS database and BaaN, particularly during the new product launches

  • Responsible for the update and maintenance of TekniOnline andStudiOnline.

  • Creating specific custom reports as needed, using data stored in existing databases – PB-TOPS, TOPS etc.

  • Responsible for the planning of user acceptance testing including such activities as: planning the testing cycle, writing test cases, defining data requirements to support the test cases, entering and tracking defects and re-testing the defect corrections.

  • Perform post-implementation testing to ensure the solution is acceptable in the production environment.

  • Analyse and document existing business processes and applications, and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Participate in business process re-engineering studies as assigned, in support of business objectives.

  • Responsible for entering orders in TOPS when required.

Education & Experience Requirements

Teknion is currently hiring a full-time Buyer for our Ergotek plant in North York, ON. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring an uninterrupted flow of materials, in support of the manufacturing schedule. Through careful analysis, anticipate and avert any negative situations that may impact customer satisfaction. Minimizing inventory levels and maximizing inventory turns is essential.

The incumbent is also accountable for vendor performance. This includes, but not limited to, the tracking of on-time delivery, the taking of appropriate action in maintaining vendor performance where needed, blocked invoice analysis and correction, as well as fostering a positive working relationship.  Maintenance and accuracy of systems data, as related to this function, is also primary, this includes all General, Inventory, Purchase and Order data parameters.

The incumbent is responsible for becoming knowledgeable of specific company units, specific commodity, group of material, service, and transportation requirements, their uses and application, their sources of supply and availability, and the price, quality, vendor performance, and market conditions of specified requirements. The incumbent is responsible for becoming familiar with the company's purchasing policy and local requisition and purchasing procedures and recognizes, coordinates, and communicates, when required, commodities that can more economically be centrally purchased.

Primary responsibilities

  • Print the PRP demand report for the appropriate warehouse daily. Verify actual special requirements to be transferred into purchase orders. Determine if there is any existing inventory, and if existing, create a warehouse order to eliminate demand in system. Create purchase orders to pertinent suppliers for all other requirements.      
  • Report all BOM errors found in the PRP report to the BOM group for corrective action.
  • Print the MRP report for the appropriate warehouse, weekly or more frequently if possible, and evaluate suggested MRP purchase orders for validity. Placing respective purchase order with the correct supplier.
  • Evaluate change orders, by E-mail, pertaining to both PRP and MRP materials. Approve or reject, taking into account standard lead times and priority of the order.
  • Enter pricing and set-up charges on purchase orders for specials, prior to receiving.
  • Check purchase orders for accuracy of information before faxing to supplier. Reviews all confirmed commitments received with respect to the overall value to the company as to delivery, price, payment terms, and vendor selection quality, so as to report any loss to the company both to purchasing and management.
  • Track and expedite materials where necessary, through the use of the late PO report, to ensure on time delivery. Monitors open transactions through completion and closing of said transactions and informs as necessary vendors, requisitioners, appropriate management on order status and delivery.
  • Evaluate all received requisitions of required material and services (MRO / CARA) for completeness, description, appropriate approval, delivery date, and designated receipt point and execute only valid Goods and Services requisitioned requirements. Communicates purchasing policies and requisition procedures to all requisitioner’s’ and potential requisitioners in the designated area of responsibility.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy, by monitoring with the assistance of production, any BOM versus work-order discrepancies. Insure that inventories are adjusted through the cycle counting process.
  • Work in conjunction with, all departments and suppliers to achieve the goal of customer satisfaction. Establishes and maintains rapport and business association with suppliers and appropriate salespeople and directs vendor technical and operating expertise as required to appropriate internal personnel.
  • Identify and Implement methods for inventory stocking improvements, both at the supplier and at your specific location. Monitors inventory levels and dispose of surplus or obsolete material in an appropriate manner.
  • Communicate with production on a consistent basis, regarding any material problems, which may cause the scheduling of customer orders to be altered.
  • Maintain and update all Purchasing item data.
  • Maintain and update material pricing, through the Price and discount session within the ERP system.
  • Assist in the processing of Blocked invoices by functional area of responsibility.
  • Maintain a consistently low PPV on all items within your functional area.
  • Commodity analysis, of current and potential substitutions. Keeping in mind, the fit form and function criteria.
  • Cost reductions of materials through the Initiation and participation in the bench-marking process. Which will include, but not be limited to, the potential re-sourcing of appropriate vendors, along with the negotiation of pricing, terms and conditions.
  • Perform all other assigned duties as required.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Post secondary education or equivalent job-related experience in Purchasing (3-5 Years).
  • Formal purchasing training and or certification an asset. Should include courses regarding laws and regulations that pertain to the procurement of these requirements as they pertain to delivery and usage of the specified item at the required location of use.
  • Must have an excellent understanding and experience with ERP systems. (Specifically Material Requirements Planning and Inventory Control practices.) Baan experience preferred.
  • Commitment to process control discipline including documentation of policies and procedures where necessary.
  • Articulate and computer literate. (word processing, spread sheets, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving stressful environment.
  • Accurate and precise with above average organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with team members.
  • Ability to handle multitask assignments and prioritize work on demand.
  • Personable, with a high level of “people” and communication attributes, both oral and written.

Teknion is currently hiring a full-time CAD Manager for our North York, ON head office. The successful candidate will manage symbols, installation guides, Revit and Sketchup creation projects to support Teknion’s product launches. In this position, you will create, maintain and manage the implementation of Teknion standards on AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp assets. The successful candidate will also manage relationships and act as liaison between Teknion and third-party vendors

Primary responsibilities

  • Plan, track and report progress on the creation of installation guides, symbols and Revit assets.
  • Assist Sales team by supporting the Revit rapid response process.
  • Review Engineering Change Orders (ECRs), determine impact on existing installation guides and modify accordingly.
  • Develop and manage the implementation of corporate standards across Teknion catalogues.
  • Train other facilities (Malaysia, R&B and Solutions) on corporate standards.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings with software partners and internal testing teams.
    • Ensure meetings are well documented and actions are communicated clearly.
    • Report, track and resolve open issues.
  • Manage drawings from all facilities and distribute them to software partners.
  • Investigate, resolve and respond to customer concerns, symbols, installation guides and software issues.
  • Explore, review and implement improvements to existing processes.
  • Interview, evaluate and train new hires.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering.
  • 3+ years of relevant project management experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Revit.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and cloud-based data management and workflow tools (Google Drive, Box, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
