The Design Engineer is accountable for ensuring that the product designed and produced at Esmond Manufacturing will satisfy the customer requirements and applicable safety standards. The costs and environmental impacts of these products are to be minimized while ensuring that acceptable quality is maintained. Additionally, it is responsibility of the incumbent to engage customers in direct discussions to define the desired and required product features and capabilities as well as establish schedules to ensure meeting customer launch dates. The incumbent will also be responsible to identify opportunities for new product development to fill existing gaps in our product offering and to grow sales by pursuing new product areas in accordance with industry trends.

Primary responsibilities

  • Work with customers during new furniture design projects.

  • Develop solutions for lighting and power distribution to fit into customer furniture designs.

  • Validate concepts for suitability and standards compliance.

  • Produce project records in accordance with Esmond Design Procedure.

  • Project management – Maintain schedule of activities.

  • Prepare costing and investment details for each new product.

  • Hand off to manufacturing with Design Release Authorization.

  • Personnel development to transfer knowledge and experience to junior engineering staff.

  • Analyze information from Customer Requests and other sources to identify industry trends and product offering gaps.

  • Develop solutions to fill gaps and gain new business.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years experience in manufacturing environment

The Territory Sales Representative is accountable for promoting and selling Teknion’s products in the NCR Eastern Ontario Market, and developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients in a professional and knowledgeable manner.  This position is responsible for growing territory sales and market share, strategically increasing visibility to both influencers and end users, as well as managing the development of dealer capabilities by partnering with and overseeing dealer execution. The Territory Sales Rep will join a team of interdependent sales professionals in which strategic team selling and a high degree of communication is required.

Primary responsibilities

  • All sales activities as it relates to achievement of Territory sales and profitability objectives, sales forecasting, and business development.
  • Preparation of annual business plans for the respective territory, participating in the determination of territory market potential and in the preparation of territory sales expense estimates.

Teknion is currently hiring a full-time Buyer for our Ergotek plant in North York, ON. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring an uninterrupted flow of materials, in support of the manufacturing schedule. Through careful analysis, anticipate and avert any negative situations that may impact customer satisfaction. Minimizing inventory levels and maximizing inventory turns is essential.

The incumbent is also accountable for vendor performance. This includes, but not limited to, the tracking of on-time delivery, the taking of appropriate action in maintaining vendor performance where needed, blocked invoice analysis and correction, as well as fostering a positive working relationship.  Maintenance and accuracy of systems data, as related to this function, is also primary, this includes all General, Inventory, Purchase and Order data parameters.

The incumbent is responsible for becoming knowledgeable of specific company units, specific commodity, group of material, service, and transportation requirements, their uses and application, their sources of supply and availability, and the price, quality, vendor performance, and market conditions of specified requirements. The incumbent is responsible for becoming familiar with the company's purchasing policy and local requisition and purchasing procedures and recognizes, coordinates, and communicates, when required, commodities that can more economically be centrally purchased.

Primary responsibilities

  • Print the PRP demand report for the appropriate warehouse daily. Verify actual special requirements to be transferred into purchase orders. Determine if there is any existing inventory, and if existing, create a warehouse order to eliminate demand in system. Create purchase orders to pertinent suppliers for all other requirements.      
  • Report all BOM errors found in the PRP report to the BOM group for corrective action.
  • Print the MRP report for the appropriate warehouse, weekly or more frequently if possible, and evaluate suggested MRP purchase orders for validity. Placing respective purchase order with the correct supplier.
  • Evaluate change orders, by E-mail, pertaining to both PRP and MRP materials. Approve or reject, taking into account standard lead times and priority of the order.
  • Enter pricing and set-up charges on purchase orders for specials, prior to receiving.
  • Check purchase orders for accuracy of information before faxing to supplier. Reviews all confirmed commitments received with respect to the overall value to the company as to delivery, price, payment terms, and vendor selection quality, so as to report any loss to the company both to purchasing and management.
  • Track and expedite materials where necessary, through the use of the late PO report, to ensure on time delivery. Monitors open transactions through completion and closing of said transactions and informs as necessary vendors, requisitioners, appropriate management on order status and delivery.
  • Evaluate all received requisitions of required material and services (MRO / CARA) for completeness, description, appropriate approval, delivery date, and designated receipt point and execute only valid Goods and Services requisitioned requirements. Communicates purchasing policies and requisition procedures to all requisitioner’s’ and potential requisitioners in the designated area of responsibility.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy, by monitoring with the assistance of production, any BOM versus work-order discrepancies. Insure that inventories are adjusted through the cycle counting process.
  • Work in conjunction with, all departments and suppliers to achieve the goal of customer satisfaction. Establishes and maintains rapport and business association with suppliers and appropriate salespeople and directs vendor technical and operating expertise as required to appropriate internal personnel.
  • Identify and Implement methods for inventory stocking improvements, both at the supplier and at your specific location. Monitors inventory levels and dispose of surplus or obsolete material in an appropriate manner.
  • Communicate with production on a consistent basis, regarding any material problems, which may cause the scheduling of customer orders to be altered.
  • Maintain and update all Purchasing item data.
  • Maintain and update material pricing, through the Price and discount session within the ERP system.
  • Assist in the processing of Blocked invoices by functional area of responsibility.
  • Maintain a consistently low PPV on all items within your functional area.
  • Commodity analysis, of current and potential substitutions. Keeping in mind, the fit form and function criteria.
  • Cost reductions of materials through the Initiation and participation in the bench-marking process. Which will include, but not be limited to, the potential re-sourcing of appropriate vendors, along with the negotiation of pricing, terms and conditions.
  • Perform all other assigned duties as required.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Post secondary education or equivalent job-related experience in Purchasing (3-5 Years).
  • Formal purchasing training and or certification an asset. Should include courses regarding laws and regulations that pertain to the procurement of these requirements as they pertain to delivery and usage of the specified item at the required location of use.
  • Must have an excellent understanding and experience with ERP systems. (Specifically Material Requirements Planning and Inventory Control practices.) Baan experience preferred.

They will oversee development of AutoCAD symbols, installation guides, Revit and Sketchup creation projects to support Teknion’s product launches. Teknion is currently hiring a full-time Product Configuration Specialist for our North York, ON plant location. In this role, the successful candidate will develop and manage the creation of product data models for specified markets and manufacturing facilities, on schedule and within the quality tolerances of established New Product Launch standards.  This encompasses working closely with New Product Manufacturing Engineering (NPME) and Product Marketing departments to create configurable models to be used in various Sales, Materials, Manufacturing, Logistics and Finance modules.

Primary responsibilities

  • Maintain multiple data management platforms of product configuration utilising native product configuration tools. This includes the structuring of bill of materials, routings, option features and options with attributes and algorithms (rules) to reflect current product additions and changes.
  • Work with cross-functional product development teams to obtain accurate information in support of new product implementations.
  • As required, process TFS Manufacturing engineering change orders (ECO) and Product Marketing product information memos (PIM). This includes updating the Manufacturing System’s part numbers, bill of materials and routings accordingly.
  • As required, liaise with Specials Design, Materials and Production to obtain accurate information to support the design of special product.Create items, bill of materials and routings accordingly.
  • Testing of the product data model for potential errors and assess for impact on system. Provide solutions around but not limited to:
    • Configurator model structure
    • Configurator rules
    • Configurator system interfaces
  • Perform root-cause analysis, debugging and coding as required to support production. Work with DBA, functional, operational and infrastructure teams on problem resolution and optimization. Implement short-term solutions and make recommendations for long-term corrective actions that support system integrity.
  • When necessary, write/create technical specifications and business process flows to document aforementioned solutions.
  • When necessary, participate in the selection and implementation of new software or technology from software vendors that will improve the business processes specific to the function of Product Configuration Specialist.
  • Manage or support process improvement projects (Lean Office).
  • Manage or support job related training.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • University Degree or advanced College diploma in Computer Science, MIS, or relevant major (i.e. Engineering)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience using a best in class ERP Configurator module (i.e. Oracle, Infor, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).Preferred experience in Baan. Includes the creation of model structures and rule definitions.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience using a mainstream configurator rules interface or constraint definition language (statement rules) or similar 4GL programming. Preferred experience in the following development languages and tools: Baan 4c4 constraint definition language, Oracle 11i Configurator Application Development Tools, Oracle PL/SQL, Fortran, C++
  • Understanding of bill of materials and routings structures and how they are associated with manufactured assemblies.

Job Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for the development and engineering of new product solutions outlined in the product brief (PDO) and based on industrial design concepts. The Design Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products meet the design intent, are manufacturing friendly, meet cost targets and meet industry testing and safety standards. The candidate will work on multi-disciplinary project teams in a concurrent environment with members of other functional groups and departments.

Primary responsibilities

  • To develop creative and sound engineering solutions to new products (as outlined by the product directional outline (PDO), incorporating technical advances in manufacturing processes and materials.
  • To evolve the design concept through a systematic process of modeling, prototyping, testing and analysis refining the design to optimize the function, appearance, and manufacturing of new parts and assemblies. Develop accurate and detailed parts and assembly layouts.
  • To cooperate closely with the Product Marketing and Industrial Design Departments to ensure that developed new products address market needs and customer expectations and work together with cross-disciplinary Project Teams to collectively solve product issues including function, manufacturability, technical application /compatibility, testing and installation, etc.
  • To prepare complete and accurate technical documentation for developed product (assembly and part drawings, part specification sheets) and other supporting documentation of all technical aspects of the product using a common database and complying with Teknion ISO procedures and internal standards.
  • Together with the Engineering team and Test Engineer, interpret the testing requirements as they apply to the new products and their application (BIFMA, CGSB, UL CSA, UBC, IBC, etc.). To ensure that the product design complies with all relevant testing requirements as outlined by the Test Engineer.
  • To coordinate and assist Model and Prototype Shops with fabrication of prototypes and pre-production product as required for the design evolution, testing, showroom and training requirements.
  • To provide preliminary product cost estimates during development.
  • To liaise with 3rd party suppliers to source components or fabrication solutions to produce standard and special designed product.
  • To cooperate with New Product Manufacturing in providing documentation, data and other information required for effective launch of products into full production.
  • To contribute to the development of new processes and tools that improve the concurrent development process and support Teknion’s lead position in the industry.
  • To continue to acquire knowledge of industry trends and standards, manufacturing and materials, technology, competitive product and engineering practices, environmental issues and sustainable design principles.

Teknion is currently hiring a Programmer Analyst for our North York, ON head office. The Programmer/Analyst is responsible for the delivery of requirements & analysis, design, programming, implementation, maintenance & support of applications & projects as a member of the IT Business Applications team.

The Programmer / Analyst will work closely with Business and IT stakeholders to architect and build business applications by performing requirements analysis, design, development, documentation and optimization of business processes & projects as governed by the Teknion IT Project Management Office (PMO) and the IT Business Application team.  In addition to project & maintenance programming responsibilities, the position will include ad hoc report creation, front-
line user application support, application training, and maintenance of development / test / production
environments.

The Programmer / Analyst will report to the Director, Business Applications. The Application Developer will work on day-to-day activities and development directly with the Manager Application Development under guidance from the Director, Business Applications The applications are predominately designed for (but not limited to) Teknion Corporation (Global
Reach). Some applications will integrate to International Teknion companies and interactions with parties’ external to Teknion.

Within this stakeholder framework, the role of Programmer / Analyst will research, develop, and implement solutions to business needs using technologies that provide Enterprise Application Integration, database connectivity, security, and web services.

Primary responsibilities

The APG Field Project Manager is responsible for co-coordinating all aspects of the installation of Teknion demount-able wall product in the field.  This includes the recommendation of installation resources based on complexity of the install, installation scheduling, co-ordination of offload, inventory, installation phasing, final walk-through and deficiency resolution.  In this capacity the incumbent will work directly with the Architectural Products Internal Project Manager (PMO) and act as an interface between the PMO and the field. The incumbent must be very familiar with all Teknion demount-able wall product, demount-able wall installation procedures, on-site project coordination, troubleshooting, error reporting and problem resolution. In addition, this position is also responsible for supervising installation crews with varying degrees of ability to ensure that the service meets or exceeds customer expectations.

Primary responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Teknion Architectural Products Installation and Certification Manager.
  • The incumbent is accountable for the installation and service of the product, including the ability to package, manifest, order, receive and off-load the product.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Post secondary education with a degree or diploma in Project Management is recommended; equivalent work experience of at least 5 years will be considered.

  • Sufficient math skills to enable the calculation of on-site cuts.
  • Minimum three years product installation experience working under the direction of a Field Project Manager or General Contractor.
  • Carpenter skills at a journey man level are required with the ability to read blue prints and transcribe to site conditions.
  • Experience working in the demount-able wall or general construction industry.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Builds effective relationships with business units to develop a “joint” vision.  Acts as a Information Technology liaison with the business and/or outside vendors as appropriate in support of the systems.   • To establish whether internal systems have adequate functionality and content to compliment new activity. When required specifies the enhancements and changes needed to internal systems to compliment process changes.
  • Develops project plans to gather and define requirements, develop, test and implement the overall solution.     This includes a work breakdown structure to estimate effort required for each task to provide a project schedule which will identify when each task will be performed and to clearly communicate expectations to team members and stakeholders. For large projects, work with project sponsors and/or stakeholders to complete project charter outlining scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, budget and timing.
  • Provide periodic, timely and accurate reporting on projects
  • Execute roll-out of project across core components - people, process and tools including in-scope partners and suppliers.

Primary responsibilities

  • Provide analysis, support and make recommendation to configurations within BaaN Manufacturing and Distribution modules.  Responsible for understanding the requirements of the business and translating them to functional requirements that can be easily translated to actionable standard Baan configurations or technology requirements.
