Luum Textiles has officially launched Beyond the Surface, the debut collection by Dorothy Cosonas. The collection explores the depth of color, texture
and pattern by drawing inspiration from the world around us: nature, art, fashion and the streets of NYC.
Using modern design principles and a deep understanding of materiality, Beyond the Surface translates these influences into 7 new products: three woven upholsteries, one non-woven upholstery, one multipurpose and two draperies.
Cloud Nine
Inspired by the study of various felt concepts along with cloud formations seen in the city, Cloud Nine is an organic large-scale multicolor pattern created using an innovative spray-dye technique. An undyed chunky chenille base cloth slowly moves
down a conveyor belt, where multiple nozzles spray three distinct colors that overlap and blend naturally. This multi-step process creates a beautiful, fluid pattern where colors mix to form a soft and tactile surface with a dynamic, one-of-a-kind
look. Cloud Nine combines artistry and technology for a truly unique textile in 6 distinct colorways.
Reed Tones
Reminiscent of fiber art and basketry, Reed Tones upholstery elevates the simplicity of an up-the-roll stripe into a textural, tactile design. To weave this fabric, four different yarns were used, including North American wool, recycled cotton and
polyester, and woven on a double beam construction. Eleven warp colors of various thicknesses within each colorway create Reed Tones’ signature subtle pattern fluctuation. The corded appearance features raised and recessed channels, creating
a multi-faceted surface across the 26” horizontal repeat, allowing the rhythm and energy of the stripe to take hold. Due to its detailed and complex color narrative, Reed Tones can effortlessly initiate a palette for various design schemes.
Colorfall
Colorfall is a full pile, low mark off, high performance velvet that brings sought-after elegance and lasting durability to any interior. Woven face-to-face on a specialized double beam loom, Colorfall achieves its dimensional appeal through innovation.
To create its subtle but dimensional two-tone effect, Colorfall is woven with two acrylic yarns, one matte and one with a slight sheen, and twisted together. The range of 22 comprehensive colorways are offered in clean, clear and engaging hues
such as classic, yet complex warm and cool neutrals, complimented by fresh mineral shades. Furthermore, engaging, rich blues and greens, along with saturated and moody jewel tones round out the palette.
Nomad
Nomad is a non-woven polyurethane upholstery that blends strength with sustainability, making it a responsible choice for eco-conscious, performance-driven applications. This corn-based bio-attributed coated upholstery features a light and dark pebbled
surface texture, reminiscent of leather. Its soft, pliable hand is due to its silicone coating, which enhances upholsterability and cleanability, remaining PFAS-free, PVC and phthalate-free, and free from FR and antimicrobial additives. In addition,
it is bleach cleanable and can be disinfected with hospital grade cleaners. Nomad is available in 21 colorways that include a mix of earthy browns, warm and cool neutrals, tranquil mid tones, sunbaked-inspired reds and nature-inspired green and
blue hues.
Pathway
Pathway is a versatile, multipurpose textile that opens up the possibilities for more color on walls, panels, screens and upholstery. Its intimate weave structure contains a heathered yarn in the weft, which creates visual appeal that
invites a closer look. Available in 16 usable yet engaging colorways and made from 100% recycled, biodegradable* polyester, Pathway is enhanced with a bio-catalyst additive that accelerates biodegradation in anerobic landfill conditions, returning
to nature in just 3.5 years.
Glance
Glance is a luxurious wide-width, semi sheer drapery inspired by the beauty and variation of linen. It is woven with bleach cleanable, recycled FR polyester. Available in 13 colorways that span classic neutrals, soft mid tones, a saturated
indigo blue, and gray and copper, its irregular, slubby texture allows light to gently filter through. Glance’s quiet sophistication provides a beautiful background in any environment.
Intertwine
Drawing from crochet techniques and fiber art, Intertwine is a wide-width 100% FR polyester drapery featuring a small scale, leno weave structure with a handcrafted feel. Offered in a range of 7 approachable warm and cool neutral colorways,
this versatile drapery combines visual interest and soft structure for a fitting conversation between a space and a window wall. Intertwine is perfect for adding both a sophisticated aesthetic and practical value to interiors, allowing light to filter
through while defining spaces.
Cosonas’ first collection masterfully achieves a fine balance between structure, the abstraction of pattern and rich textures. This marks a fresh direction for Luum while continuing to uphold its core commitments to design, usability and sustainability.
