AC Executive: One of a Kind

By Jon Strassner, Vice President, Sales - Teknion Studio

AC Executive, an upscale casegoods line designed by Antonio Citterio to celebrate the beauty and elegance of wood in the executive office, is available from Teknion Studio through its partnership with legendary Italian furniture manufacturer B&B Italia. The partnership includes a license to manufacture the AC Executive line for distribution in the North American market. The affinity of Teknion and B&B Italia arises through shared values and a congenial philosophy and sense of purpose. Both are privately owned companies founded by far-sighted individuals and piloted by family members who view their business enterprise as a personal passion.

The AC Executive line was first introduced in 2007, in response to the needs of a client, working with an architectural firm in London, that couldn’t find what it was looking for in the existing B&B Italia line.  As a last resort, B&B pulled images of dining tables and book cases from one of its residential projects in Milan. The client loved it, and so AC Executive was born. Citterio’s vision was all about bringing Maxalto, and its persona, into the office.  It’s high end residential gone corporate.

Manufactured by Teknion in a state of the art facility in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, B&B Italia’s AC Executive line defines the intersection of high end residential design and corporate haute couture .  AC Executive brings modern technology into the executive space, yet hides it in such a way as to insinuate that each element is a one-of-a-kind piece of freestanding furniture.  These pieces are referred to as “antiques of the future”.  As B&B Italia likes to say, “We make beautiful furniture for the office, we don’t make office furniture”.

AC Executive brings modern technology into the executive space, yet hides it in such a way as to insinuate that each element is a one-of-a-kind piece of freestanding furniture.

And it is beautiful.  Whether you’re admiring the hand-picked, rift cut veneer, or the hand-brushed surface that brings out the wood grain, these pieces are made for the customer with a fine eye for the better things in life. The manufacturing facility is set up “in units of one”, meaning the plant makes one piece at a time, and each piece is handcrafted—an important distinction at a time when the craft movement is highly popular.  The attention to detail is so great that even the insides of the drawers are lined with veneer.

The collection includes a series of file storage cabinets, credenzas, bookcases, meeting tables and desks that address planning issues and personal needs. Meticulously designed with concealed hardware to preserve the purity of craft, AC Executive features back-painted glass, cleanly finished edges, recessed pulls and LED lighting.

In those businesses where an impression is still made by the office setting, the AC line is a natural choice.
